If your child doesn't know who Smokey the Bear is, here's their chance!
The US Forest Service's Junior Forest Ranger program introducing Smokey and his message AND uses Forest Service science and practices to encourage children 7 through 13 to enjoy and appreciate nature. The program includes a printable Junior Ranger self-led guide with activities and facts about ecosystems, forest science and conservation. Some of the activities you and your child will find inside include making their own poster with a Smokey the Bear-style wildfire-prevention message, completing a tale of two forests, learning how to use forest ranger tools and nature observation reporting.
After the child completes the guide, they can send it in for a completion certificate and be registered as a new Junior Forest Ranger! The new Ranger will receive an embroidered badge, a pin, an oath card, and a Junior Forest Ranger card.
This is an excellent activity book for teachers to use in classrooms as well!
